The Ultimate Challenge: Inter Services Selection Board (ISSB)
Passing the initial written intelligence and physical tests at the AS&RC is just the beginning. The ISSB in Kohat, Gujranwala, Malir, or Quetta is a rigorous 4-day evaluation designed to test your baseline psychology, leadership potential, and resilience under extreme pressure.
The Complete 4-Day ISSB Schedule
Day 1: Arrival, Documentation & Psychological Testing
After document verification, candidates immediately face the Psychologist. This day is mentally exhausting and requires immense focus. Tests include:
- Word Association Tests (WAT): Rapidly writing positive, natural sentences for 100+ triggered words flashed on a screen.
- Sentence Completion Test: Finishing half-written sentences in Urdu and English (e.g., "When he saw the fire, he...").
- Thematic Apperception Test (TAT): Writing short, action-oriented stories based on blurry, ambiguous pictures.
Day 2 & 3: Group Testing Officer (GTO) Tasks
You will be assigned a chest number and a group of 8-10 candidates. The GTO evaluates you through outdoor physical and analytical tasks:
- Group Discussions & Group Planning: Discussing a socio-economic issue and solving a hypothetical map-based problem.
- Progressive Group Tasks (PGT): Moving your team and a heavy drum across out-of-bounds areas using ropes and planks.
- Individual Obstacles: 9 obstacles including Rope climbing, ditch crossing, Tarzan swing, and high jump (to be completed in 3 minutes).
- Command Task: You are made the commander to lead your group through a specific obstacle.
Pro Tip for Command Task: The GTO is looking for practical teamwork, not solo heroism. Give clear instructions, listen to your subordinates, execute physically, and never yell at your team.
Day 4: Deputy President Interview & Departure
This is a high-pressure, stress-testing interview. The Deputy President will interrogate your family background, general knowledge, academic concepts, and may challenge your opinions to see if you crack. Maintain strict eye contact, sit up straight, and answer authentically without bluffing.
