The Army Medical Corps (AMC) serves as the backbone of the Pakistan Armed Forces' healthcare system. For aspiring medical professionals, joining the AMC is an unparalleled opportunity to practice at the highest clinical standards in Combined Military Hospitals (CMH) while holding a highly respected military rank.
Whether you are an FSc Pre-Medical student aiming for a fully funded medical education or a graduated doctor looking to serve your nation, the AMC offers a secure, progressive, and highly rewarding career. We have analyzed the latest 2026 GHQ induction guidelines to bring you the most accurate roadmap to joining the medical corps.
Exploring other pathways? If you are interested in non-medical branches, check out our master guides on the PMA Long Course 158 (for males) or the Lady Cadet Course (LCC) (for females).
1. Regular Medical Cadets (After FSc Pre-Medical)
If you want the military to fund your entire medical education from day one, the Regular Medical Cadet route is the ultimate pathway. Selected candidates study MBBS (5 years) or BDS (4 years) at Army-administered Medical Colleges (Rawalpindi, Lahore, Quetta, Karachi, Multan, etc.) absolutely free of cost.
Upon completing their medical degree and 22 weeks of Basic Military Training (BMT) at PMA Kakul, they are commissioned as Captain Doctors.

2. Registration & The NUMS MDCAT Mandate
The registration process is conducted online via www.joinpakarmy.gov.pk or in-person at your nearest Army Selection and Recruitment Centre (AS&RC).
The NUMS Requirement:
- It is 100% mandatory for all Medical Cadet applicants to appear and pass the fresh NUMS (National University of Medical Sciences) MDCAT. If you are selected by the Army but fail to register/appear for your regional MDCAT exams, you will be declared ineligible.
College Priority:
- During online registration, candidates must carefully select their priority of medical colleges. Once selected on merit for a specific institution, your college will not be changed.
3. Initial Tests & Physical Standards (AS&RC)
Unlike civilian medical colleges, AMC candidates must pass military intelligence and physical evaluations.
- Written/Intelligence Test: A computerized test featuring MCQs from English, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry.
- Initial Medical: A preliminary checkup to ensure basic fitness.
| Physical Test | Passing Requirement |
|---|---|
| Minimum Height | 5 feet 4 inches (162.5 cm) |
| 1.6 KM Run | Must be completed strictly within 8 minutes |
| Push-ups | 15 repetitions in 2 minutes |
| Sit-ups | 20 repetitions in 2 minutes |
| Pull-ups (Chin-ups) | 3 repetitions in 2 minutes |
| Ditch Crossing | 7'4" x 7'4" with a depth of 4 feet |
4. The 13-Year Service Bond
Becoming a Medical Cadet is a massive investment by the Pakistan Army. Therefore, finally selected candidates are required to sign a strict legal bond stating they will serve the Pakistan Army for a minimum period of 13 years. This bond time commences immediately upon the completion of your MBBS/BDS degree.
5. The 'M' Cadet Scheme (For 4th/5th Year Students)
A lesser-known but highly lucrative pathway is the official 'M' Cadet scheme. If you are an unmarried male, aged 20 to 26 years, and already enrolled in a PMDC-recognized civilian medical college (currently in your 4th or final year), the Army can "adopt" you.
The Benefit:
- The Army pays a monthly military stipend for the remainder of your degree. Upon graduation and house job completion, you directly join the AMC as a Captain.
6. Direct Short Service Commission (GDMOs & Specialists)
If you have already completed your MBBS/BDS from a PMDC-recognized civilian institution and finished your 1-year house job, you can bypass the cadet phase entirely. You can join directly as a General Duty Medical Officer (GDMO) with the rank of Captain.
Eligibility
- Both Male and Female citizens are eligible. The age limit is up to 28 years (relaxable up to 35 years for specialists with higher qualifications like FCPS/FRCS).
Females in AMC:
- Female doctors are highly encouraged to apply for GDMO and Specialist roles. (For FSc female students looking for medical roles, see our AFNS Guide).
Strict Ineligibility Conditions
Do not apply for the AMC if you are:
- "Not Recommended" twice by the ISSB or GHQ Selection Board.
- Declared medically UNFIT by the Appeal Medical Board.
- Declared medically UNFIT due to Hepatitis B & C (Appeal Medical Board cannot be requested for this).
- Withdrawn, discharged, or dismissed from any Armed Forces training academy on disciplinary or medical grounds.
